Venus Williams & Equal Pay at Wimbledon

For decades, female tennis players earned significantly less prize money at major tournaments than their male counterparts. In the mid-2000s, Venus Williams led a relentless campaign demanding change.

In 2006, she penned a powerful op-ed for The Times ahead of Wimbledon, arguing that the pay gap sent a message that women's labor was valued less. Her advocacy paid off: in 2007, Wimbledon and the French Open announced full prize-money parity for men and women across all rounds.

By combining structured mentorship, skill-building, and peer support, these programs address systemic gaps and personal challenges that girls face in education, leadership, and health.
